To be self-taught is to be self-inspired. The art of taking productive action in an effort to develop one’s craft is the only way that true creativity and individualism can construct. If we were to follow in every footstep printed temporarily by leadership, we would merely circulate an idea that has only been manipulated and never developed. Although it is the case that everything comes from something (loosely insinuating that nothing is truly invented), it is in our best interests to search deeply into the threads of our own interwoven tapestry in an effort to define "mine." By taking bits from every interaction and every spark, we develop our own personified montage of all that has existed in timeless historical moments. It is in this recognition that we decipher the riddled questioning of existence. We inadvertently divulge a part of our life’s path that had previously been unexplored. The ambiguous trek takes portions of time that cannot be regained, but within these sequential purchases, we grow. We find out why senses stimulate, why thoughts and images exist only in cognition, why time started only to pass. To present oneself with such gifts is the only way to be true to one’s craft. It is by no means a sign of weakness to ask for help, but do remember that advice is never finite. Math may be the only existing truth, but perception is much more important.
When everyone joins shitty cover bands, we only get to hear Journey songs. When everyone takes writing classes, we only read the agendas of potentially lackluster English professors. When everyone plays like a Tiger, we all hit the same draw. These are never ways to find out what works for one's self and are certainly not ways to graciously give back. They are, however, guarantees for affecting criticism, self-loathing, and, most importantly, guarantees to be forgotten in death.
Do what you do because it is a direct representation of who you are and not what you want the world to see you as. Live life based on personal principals and not aesthetically pleasing facades. In these efforts, you will find that the only perception that really matters is your own. Only in that moment will you know what it means to own anything.
